Joe Hills songs frequently appropriated familiar melodies from songs of his time. Hill wrote his lyrics with a great portion of humor and irony, which surley is one of the reasons why his songs where widley spread. Hill was a singing agitator and orginazer who used his songs like weapons in the fight for liberty.
